Congress income, a question of too much or not enough? According to a CRS Report for Congress as i=of January 1, 2008, both senators and representative were making $169,300, which is more then the average doctor. In 2008, $90,575,500 were spent on congress income alone, this does not include office expenses, or any other sort of expenses. The national debt as of march 2012 was $15,488,891,296,248, this would take only five years to pay off, with payments at the amount of $90,575,500 per year.
To me this seems like a lot of federal money being spent pointlessly. the solution to paying off the national debt could potentially be cutting congress income, rather then school funding. The funding to the school should increase not decrease, simply because the kids attending school today are the future for tomorrow. Congress simply does not need to be paid that much. I believe cutting there income in half, $45,287,750, would be very beneficial to paying off the debt. Each congressman would still be making $84,650 a year, which is more than enough to make ends meet.

I wish that I could make all of that money!
I agree, the government needs to cut their own income and put it towards our debt.
that would be crazy to make that much money!! would be a dream come true ha
It is true that they make way too much, but using their income for five years only adds up to 452,877,500, not even half of the debt.
They make that much money and are complaining their job is to hard for the pay wages, try putting them in a burgerking for a day im sure theyd die
I agree with brian. If we paid 90 million dollars to the debt each year, it would take more than 167,000 years, not 5
In the Year 2000:

Looks like I'm gonna become a congressman just for the money.
