According to Dictionary.com the definition of an electoral college is as follows:
“noun ( often initial capital letters ) a body of electors chosen by the voters in each state to elect the President and vice President of the U.S.”
This is how the U.S. elects its president. This is controversial in many ways and questioned if it is fair or not. When the Electoral College was established in 1787, people were thought to be uneducated about politics, which is very true because they did not have the technology we have today, such as five o’ clock news, internet, or television. Now it is obvious to see that we do have the technology to be educated and make our own choice on who should be president. The electors chosen are based on population, and I view this as unfair. I see it this way because the states with a bigger population have a tendency to be very liberal and those with a smaller population have a tendency to be very conservative. The more electoral votes a candidate gets from the states with a bigger population the better. It is also based on a winner take all system. This means that whichever candidate has the majority of the votes, no matter how close it is to a tie, win all the electoral votes for that state.
I see the Electoral College as old and outdated. For the society we live in today, it just doesn’t make any sense to run it using the Electoral College. Now the citizens of America are well educated about politics and should have the right to vote for who they want to be president, rather than electors doing so. The states liberal or conservative would be represented equally as well as the winner take all system would not exist either. America needs to be a true democracy not a representative democracy.

yeah i think we need to update it and make it more up to the times
I agree with littlelane. We are in need of some serious change!
People aren't more educated about politics in 2012 than in 1787. People in 2012 just know which politicians are having oral sex with their interns.
We would quickly fall into anarchy. True democracy can only work on a small scale, not in a country of 560 million people. We need a representitve democracy or we wouldn't ever get anything done. Ever. Did you not pay attention in McNally's class?
We really need to change the system!
I agree with Brian. It has worked this long so keep it.
So far it has worked well. I agree with both sides. I think that each state should have an even amount of votes.
I agree with Brian other than the fact the there is only 300 million people in this country, not 560. The electoral college does need to be changed though.
I think that the people should be able to directly vote for their president.
I think it's hard not to have some kind of higher system when we already have so few people actually voting. A lot of people don't even realize there IS an electoral college.
I agree that we need a different system we mainly just need some way to be able to give the small states a better chance.
