Congress income, a question of too much or not enough? According to a CRS Report for Congress as i=of January 1, 2008, both senators and representative were making $169,300, which is more then the average doctor. In 2008, $90,575,500 were spent on congress income alone, this does not include office expenses, or any other sort of expenses. The national debt as of march 2012 was $15,488,891,296,248, this would take only five years to pay off, with payments at the amount of $90,575,500 per year.
To me this seems like a lot of federal money being spent pointlessly. the solution to paying off the national debt could potentially be cutting congress income, rather then school funding. The funding to the school should increase not decrease, simply because the kids attending school today are the future for tomorrow. Congress simply does not need to be paid that much. I believe cutting there income in half, $45,287,750, would be very beneficial to paying off the debt. Each congressman would still be making $84,650 a year, which is more than enough to make ends meet.

Ron Paul, 2012 Presidential Candidate
Ron Paul is a congressman from Texas. he is well known in the congress for his consistent voting record. Consistence is what America needs. However, consistence is only good if the right choice are made to begin with. I believe Ron Paul has this ability. Ron Paul has been a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. therefor, he knows the art of war from experience. I believe that if a president has experience with war, they are able to run the country better. Ron strongly agrees with pro-life and pro-family values, which America has seem to have lost in the last few decades. Ron also believes in minimal federal taxes, federal spending and is a firm believer in regulation.
Ron Paul believes in Jesus Christ as his own personal savior. however he does not discriminate against those who do not believe. although he is a believer he feels as if this subject is met to be private. to me Ron Paul seems to be the perfect candidate. he has experience in government, and war. his political views also seem to match the majority of America's peoples.

The Electoral College
According to Dictionary.com the definition of an electoral college is as follows:
“noun ( often initial capital letters ) a body of electors chosen by the voters in each state to elect the President and vice President of the U.S.”
This is how the U.S. elects its president. This is controversial in many ways and questioned if it is fair or not. When the Electoral College was established in 1787, people were thought to be uneducated about politics, which is very true because they did not have the technology we have today, such as five o’ clock news, internet, or television. Now it is obvious to see that we do have the technology to be educated and make our own choice on who should be president. The electors chosen are based on population, and I view this as unfair. I see it this way because the states with a bigger population have a tendency to be very liberal and those with a smaller population have a tendency to be very conservative. The more electoral votes a candidate gets from the states with a bigger population the better. It is also based on a winner take all system. This means that whichever candidate has the majority of the votes, no matter how close it is to a tie, win all the electoral votes for that state.
I see the Electoral College as old and outdated. For the society we live in today, it just doesn’t make any sense to run it using the Electoral College. Now the citizens of America are well educated about politics and should have the right to vote for who they want to be president, rather than electors doing so. The states liberal or conservative would be represented equally as well as the winner take all system would not exist either. America needs to be a true democracy not a representative democracy.

"A president gets better as time goes on."
Obama said earlier this week, “A president gets better as time goes on.” Which may be very true, however we simply do not have time to wait for him to improve his skills and become a better president. I believe we need to start out fresh with someone who is already better at being president then Obama. Obama also claimed during his interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer that he has created 3.7 million jobs in the last 23 months. I find this very difficult to believe being so many are still unemployed. He also added that he created the most jobs since 2005. Yet again I find this hard to believe. It may sound good and seem like the truth; however this is not the case. There are still several people unemployed and on well-fare. There are more people on well-fare now than ever before. If employment has increased so much, shouldn’t well-fare be decreasing? The answer is yes, but this I not what is happening what so ever.
I believe Obama is just trying to look good for the upcoming election, but if we take a look at the last four years, he really has not accomplished anything. This could be because of how balanced our government is with political parties. I believe it is not caused by political parties but by his way of attempting to run this country. Obama also mentioned Mitt Romney’s “rough week” which is ironic since Mitt has the lead on him by six points according to the new WaPo/ABC poll. Obama should not be talking of Mitt’s rough week, after all it has been a rough four years with him as president. Whatever happened to friendly competition?

Mitt Romney for president, I'm thinking so!
Mitt Romney would be a great president for the United States. We need someone who is concerned with the wellness of the people. Mitt realizes that America must hold its own but also remain allies with the majority of the countries in the world. If elected Mitt hopes to create more treaties and bring back idea of “Mother America”. Mother America simply refers back to the time when all countries could turn to us for help. Yes, it put us in some sticky situations, but it also made us more of a super power and created a world-wide liking of America. Mitt wants to bring this back which I think is an incredible idea and the best for America’s future. Mitt is also against Obamacare. He believes that it should be replaced with market-based reforms which would not only reduce health care cost, but it would empower the states. This would create more of a balance between federal and state power, which is the way it should be.
Another one of Mitt’s goals is to reduce taxes and create some sort of regulation on spending which would then reduce the money spends on government programs. Right now, in America more people are on well-fare than ever before and it’s simply because it is not regulated. Well fare is supposed to be a temporary assistance, which is only used for a small portion of one’s life. It is not supposed to be this permanent allowance because people don’t want to get a job and work for what they have. Mitt realizes this as well. I do agree with Mitt on this subject. We need to regain our hard working society. Obviously Mitt Romney is the way to go! He has several great ideas and will pursue them to make America the way it used to be, successful and hardworking.

"There is Nothing Gray About the Truth"
The fallowing quote really struck out to me and made me think of politics believe it or not:
“There’s nothing gray about the truth, it’s simply wrong or right; for shadows disappear from view when we stand in the light,”-Charles Ghigna
This I found very true. Right now there seems to be a discrepancy between the government and the people. There seems to be a gray truth in a sense, there are so many people questioning the governments honesty and if they are expressing the full truth to the people. This questioning began in the 90s and has continued ever since. What America needs is the black and white truth between the people and the government. When we develop this concept that is when America will “stand in the light.” We need to bring back the eras in which Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy were president. To me these appear to be two of the best presidential terms in history. I believe this because in both of their presidencies there we hard times and the economy wasn’t the best however they kept the truth known to the people and the people trusted the government. Modern society needs to gain back the trust of the government and when that is done successfully, that is when we will be in the light.

Independent Party Candidate for the 2012 Election
I believe that an independent party president is just what the American government needs right now. An independent party candidate running for president is less likely to happen. However, this is what our country needs. There needs to be a mutual balance between the two main political parties, the republicans and the democrats. An independent party member would break the over-balanced government there is today, you could say they would act as the tie breaker. A president that would benefit the USA is someone who has their own thoughts and opinions rather than being tied down to one single party. With a combination of beliefs from either party more citizens would be pleased. Also an independent party candidate would act as a peace maker making it possible to come up with a plan to fight off the debt America has, a task that the republican and democrat parties couldn’t seem to handle. This is making the people of America question the trust they put into the Republican and Democrat parties, which is making more people lean towards a new candidate, possibly an independent party. However this is less likely to happen because of the election process. The only spots that are able to be filled on a ballot are classified under either republican or democrat, leaving out independent parties all together.

Politics Blog
My topic for this blog will be politics. I chose this topic because I am very knowledgeable in politics, because I watch the daily news, in the morning and at night, and read numerous articles dealing with politics in general, as a part of my daily routine. I believe I am qualified to blog about politics because I have always taken an interest in politics from a very young age and have gained a lot of knowledge throughout the years. I also expanded on my knowledge by completing the senior government class last semester. In this blog I will be writing from a critical, problem-solving point of view, by reviewing the government’s actions and policies, as well as raising some questions on how government could change to better American citizens. I will be writing in a first person point of view as well as being very opinionated in my writing. There is always a topic dealing with politics, therefor I will not run out of topics to blog about.
